Afflecks Palace
Bruntwood
Afflecks Palace is a Manchester icon, a treasure trove of all things eccentric and unique. We jumped at the chance to create a video promo celebrating this one-of-a-kind retail haven. From retro games to avant-garde fashion, Afflecks is a place like no other. If walls could talk, this place would have a few tales to tell.
Celebrating an Icon
Some places simply can’t be described—they have to be experienced.
Afflecks has been at the heart of Manchester’s creative scene for decades. Home to independent retailers, artists, makers and collectors, it’s a place where every corner reveals something unexpected. From vintage fashion and handcrafted jewellery to retro gaming, vinyl, artwork and alternative culture, it’s a building bursting with personality.
When Afflecks asked us to produce a series of videos celebrating everything that makes the place so unique, we knew there was only one approach: embrace the organised chaos.
The goal wasn’t simply to showcase the shops. It was to capture the feeling of walking through the doors for the very first time.
Every Floor Tells a Story
Afflecks is one of those rare places where no two visits are ever the same.
As you wander through its maze of independent stores, every turn reveals something completely different. One moment you’re surrounded by vintage clothing, the next you’re discovering handmade gifts, rare collectables or a hidden tattoo studio tucked away upstairs.
Our films were designed to mirror that experience.
Rather than slowing the pace down, we took viewers on a whistle-stop tour through the building, jumping from shop to shop, floor to floor and personality to personality. Every scene introduces another slice of what makes Afflecks such an iconic destination, creating the same sense of discovery visitors experience in real life.
Fast, Fun and Full of Personality
The energy of the edit was just as important as the footage itself.
Quick cuts, bold transitions and dynamic camera movement helped keep the pace moving, while vibrant motion graphics and animated typography injected another layer of personality into every frame.
Rather than simply labelling stores, the on-screen graphics became part of the storytelling, introducing different retailers, highlighting quirky products and reinforcing the playful, creative identity that Afflecks has become famous for.
The result feels colourful, energetic and unmistakably Manchester.
Spotlighting Independent Creativity
At its heart, Afflecks isn’t really about the building—it’s about the people inside it.
Every independent business has its own story, its own style and its own loyal community. Throughout the films, we wanted to give audiences a glimpse into that incredible variety, celebrating the artists, entrepreneurs and creators who make Afflecks such a special place.
Whether it was shelves stacked with retro games, rails of one-of-a-kind fashion, handmade artwork or beautifully eccentric gifts, every shot reminded viewers that this isn’t somewhere you visit to find the ordinary.
It’s somewhere you visit to discover something you’ve never seen before.
Built for Social
The series was designed specifically for social media, where grabbing attention quickly is everything.
Fast-paced editing, eye-catching graphics and punchy text overlays ensured every video delivered maximum impact within seconds, encouraging viewers to keep watching as they explored another corner of the building.
The format also gave us the flexibility to create multiple pieces of content, each highlighting different areas of Afflecks while maintaining a consistent visual style across the series.
It became a campaign that felt as eclectic and varied as Afflecks itself.
Capturing the Spirit of Manchester
Projects like this are a reminder that the best promotional films don’t just show a place—they capture its personality.
Afflecks has always championed individuality, creativity and independent thinking, and we wanted every frame to reflect that spirit. Through energetic filmmaking, playful motion graphics and a genuine appreciation for everything that makes the building so iconic, we created content that feels less like an advert and more like an invitation.
An invitation to explore. To get lost. To discover something unexpected.
Because if the walls of Afflecks could talk, they’d probably tell you to stop scrolling and come inside.
